Today’s free kids’ eBook list has a number of fun books on it. You will find a new book in the Young Underground series by Robert Elmer, a professionally published Christian author. I also found several cute picture books and interesting novels.
I wanted to also highlight today, that I recently found out that Amazon has released for free professional audiobook versions of several classics through the Amazon owned site Audible.
If you own the newest Kindle Fires (both regular and HD version), you can actually listen to the audiobook alternated with reading the eBook through Amazon’s new Immersive Reading Technology (IRT). The text will be highlighted as you listen to the audio on your Kindle. If you stop listening to the audio but read further in the book on your own, the audio will automatically pick up where you left off the next time you listen (Whispersync Technology).
This IRT feature is different than the Text-to-Speech (TTS) feature on older Kindles in that the audio is a professional narration rather than a computerized voice. Also, the audiobooks must be purchased separately from the eBook through Amazon’s site audible.com
The good news is that even if you don’t own a new Kindle or want to buy audiobooks, you can still download these professional audio books onto your computer or electronic device. And, it looks like you can even burn the books to a CD. I don’t know whether Amazon plans to keep these books free forever, so you may want to download them now if you are interested. Here is what you do (you may want to read through the entire directions first):
- Download the following classic books through the Amazon Store. The following books are both free eBooks and have free audio:
- The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
- Gulliver’s Travels
- The Adventures of Huckleberry Fin
- Black Beauty
- The Three Musketeers
We allow our preschooler to listen to audiobooks and the Bible during his rest time in the afternoon and while he is falling asleep at night. He has entire classics and portions of the Bible almost memorized from doing this!
And, here is today’s free kids’ eBook list:
Free EBooks for Kids
First, if you are new take a minute to read through this necessary information about my lists:
- Don’t forget to check prices before downloading.
- You can read a Kindle eBook on non-Amazon devices by downloading their free app unto your PC or i-pad.
- This list only reflects my personal opinion.
- This blog uses affiliate Amazon links.
- If you want to read all about how I find these books, create these lists, and choose what to feature, read my FAQ on Finding Free EBooks.
One more bit of news, I have decided to take a necessary break in posting daily lists starting tomorrow. My blog has been growing rapidly since I starting writing the lists back in July, but writing the lists keeps me so busy that I have not had time to rest and catch up on some needed blog maintenance. (Plus, my kids need some extra outdoor time before the cold weather hits!)
Due to some extra family responsibilities, I will not post any lists next week. I will post free kids’ eBook lists for the remainder of October but not on a daily basis.
I hope that whether you are a new reader or old that you will continue to follow me during this necessary transition time. I plan to be fully up and running daily lists again by early November! And, I will be keeping the blog active with some really fun play posts and book reviews that I am excited about sharing with you.
I hope that you enjoy your free eBooks and audiobooks today!
