Free Kindle Picture Books

Update: My most current list of free Kindle books is here. (I’m sorry if you have been directed to this post through Tuesday Tots. I accidentally linked an old post!)

Several new free Kindle picture books for children were posted today that I think are worth sharing. Please remember to check the price before purchasing because most of these books will only stay free for a short period of time.

Many times free Kindle books are self-published and lack the quality of traditionally published book. But, they are useful for:

1) Entertaining small children and babies while on the go.
2) Storytelling: Have your child make up their own story to go with the photos.
3) Simple learning: Many of the photo books contain facts about animals or objects.
4) Reading practice: Kids think everything is more fun when gadgets are involved.

Book Jackets link to Amazon:

Hello Goose by Mama Young
This simple picture book has paintings of geese with words such “swimming” and “splashing”.

Train Pictures by Davis Lemmons
We really enjoyed this book about trains. It has no words, so my kid made up his own words.  The variety of trains included was great with different types, eras, and scenes represented.

Horse Picture Book by Kelly Gerard
Like the train book this picture book is just a simple collection of horse pictures. Gerard does name the breed of each horse and includes an interactive table of contents too!

My Time With God: New Testament Devotions by Paul Loth
I didn’t have time to read through it, but I thought some Christians might be interested to see this devotional for children.

Who Is Hiding on the Farm by Cindy Bracken
I’ve read several of Bracken’s books, and overall we have enjoyed them. Preschoolers and toddlers will enjoy trying to figure out what animals are hiding behind the fence.

Three Wee Peas by Laura Yirak
The poem is a bit of a stretch, but the illustrations are really cute and bright.

Jellyfish by Cindy Bracken (early reader)
Ben loved the photos of jellyfish in this book.

The Animal Book
This picture book has photos of different animals labeled with their names. I’m not sure how many animals are in it, but it is quite long.

Baby Animals
by Kimberly Jane Pryor
Another picture book with photos of animals labeled with their names.

Harry Saves the Day by Kurt Zimmerman
This book by Zimmerman is cute and well-done. One caveat, I think that the message about being different is special can sometimes deal too flippantly with a serious problem. The characters in books seem to have an easier time proving their worth than children who struggle with being different. But, I think kids will enjoy it, and the message may help them appreciate others who are different.

Howly Hoo Hoo written by Laura Yirak
Cute pictures and a little geography at the end made this book stand out.

I didn’t read all of these but if you like the simple photo books, here are a couple more:
